The Austin- Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery
Reston, Virginia
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
At The Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery, our philosophy is centered upon the well-being of our plastic surgery patients; not only how they look, but also how they feel.
We take pride in seeing our patients' self esteem soar when they witness the dramatic physical transformations possible after plastic surgery. We have even seen these physical transformations lead to profound spiritual transformations, where people see themselves relating to the world positively - again, or maybe for the first time

More About Dr. Poindexter
Education
- Undergraduate: Indiana University
- M.D.: Indiana University
- General Surgery: University of Florida
- Plastic Surgery: University of Alabama
While a senior in medical school, and among the top in his class at Indiana University School of Medicine, Dr. Poindexter stumbled across the field of plastic surgery. "I was a very intense student and was aiming toward a career in ophthalmology," Dr. Poindexter notes. "Because it was the most competitive field at the time, I thought it must be the best. Finally, I actually spent some time on an ophthalmology rotation and hated it." It was a "fill in" rotation with a local plastic surgeon in Indianapolis that unveiled the area of medicine that became his passion.
"I loved the variety of operations and the uniqueness of each, but probably more important, I really enjoyed the patients - before and after the operations," he states.
The uniqueness of each case and every individual truly plays into Dr. Poindexter's strong suites of problem solving, aesthetic focus and communication. Board Certified in 1999 shortly after going into practice, Dr. Poindexter's focus with cosmetic surgery is in providing patients beautiful, balanced and natural results. He finds beauty in balancing not only outward proportions, but inner feelings with outer appearance.
Dr. Poindexter graduated summa cum laude from both Indiana University and Indiana University School of Medicine, receiving numerous academic honors, service honors, and scholarships along the way. He received training at the highly respected programs of general surgery at the University of Florida and plastic surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. When he joined the practice in 1998, he brought experience in endoscopic surgery (minimal incision surgery) to the practice and is an author on several papers in plastic surgery. He has presented the Austin-Weston experience with abdominoplasty (tummy tucks) at the national meeting of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
While his professional passion is plastic surgery, he is committed to family and community. Dr. Poindexter has generously donated his skill, time and resources to a community outreach program that provides for the removal of tattoos from former gang members. His recreational time is divided between travel, golf, and equestrian activities.
